New Brochures for the Town
 |
A brand new Heritage Trail brochure and a matching version of the Town's Circular Walks brochure are now available in the Town.
Stewart Parrington has driven the project to deliver these matching brochures. The words of the new heritage Trail brochure were written by Allison Deverson with support from Michael Bullen, Edward Roberts and Martin Smith, drawings were by Gill Nethercott and Cathy Burt.

Photographs for both brochures are by Trevan Cocking with the aerial view of the Silk Mill from Aerial Target Systems.
The brochures are now available at 1 Winchester Street, the Town Hall and the Silk Mill or you can download the information by clicking on the images. They were funded by the SEEDA Town Centre Improvement grant. |
Meanwhile Idiots Vandalise Shop Front
As money is being spent on improving the look of the town to improve its attractiveness to visitors and Townsfolk, part of the recently redecorated frontage of the Village Bakery has been vandalised.
A large piece of the expensive "window" display was torn off a week ago.
If anyone knows anything about it could they please contact the police on 0845 045 45 45?
£10,000 to be spent Parish Hall
Repairs to the Hall are to start as soon as possible with the target of re-opening in October.
The Parish Hall Committee agreed on 31 July to go ahead with the repairs necessary to reopen the Hall.
These are replacing the floor, with joists, and making good the walls in the toilets plus fixing the outside plumbing which is believed to have caused the problem - this will cost just over £10,000, that's all the money currently in the Hall's funds.
Meanwhile, the interior is being repainted by Rod Clarke and Bill Judge. Applications for grants to the Town Council and the Paint Your Town scheme will be made to help offset the costs of materials and also much needed external redecoration. The kitchen has been found to need some repairs to the flooring only, the joists and walls are sound.
So fund raising is about to start in ernest with a letter drop to all residents, which is planned to become a regular newsletter produced by Bill Judge.
9 Whitchurch Adventure
The Wright Family, Beth, Steve and 7 month old Dylan intend to visit all 9 Whitchurch's in England and Wales by public transport. They are looking for sponsorship for the Testbourne Teapot.
The Testbourne Teapot is a local baby and toddler group that meets in the Community Suite at Testbourne School every Monday from 9.15 to 11.30 (except Bank Holidays). It costs £1.50 per family, which includes refreshments. There is a different craft activity and a music and movement session every week.
A few changes have recently been made to the group. It now has a separate baby room to provide a safer environment for children under 1 and healthy snacks are on offer for the children.
The Teapot is a fantastic opportunity for carers to get together with their babies and toddlers. New Mum's find the support offered by the other parents invaluable. But like all such groups it cost money to run.
The Wright family are off during the first 2 weeks of September and are looking for your support. You donate directly by visiting Beth's website or contact her by email at beth@thewhitchurchweb.org. |
