fortnightly. A 140 litre bin is supplied but a larger, 240 litre one can be
supplied free on request 01256 844844. These bins
are to be used for:
- mixed papers and card, cans (aluminium and steel), plastic bottles
- cardboard can be left at the roadside with, but not in,
the bin
Green Waste for Composting
BDBC provides a kerbside collection service for green waste. The best way to deal
with green waste, even small amounts of kitchen waste, is to compost it.
BDBC has an agreement with a supplier of plastic 'Dalek' type composting
bins which can be delivered for the reduced price of £15. If you need advice
on composting use the contact page.
Furniture
The Community Furniture
Project is a registered local charity, providing furniture, household goods,
electrical items and toys at low cost to people living on a low income in
Newbury, Basingstoke and the surrounding towns and villages.
It is able to do this by receiving and collecting furniture and other items
generously given by local people. It also also offers training and
opportunities for people to develop work and social skills, and encourage
environmentally beneficial activities.
For more information visit the project's website
Freecycle
There are local groups up and down the country that offer unwanted items to others on the internet. This is probably the ultimate in recycling as items go straight to someone who will use them, the only rule is that the items must be offered free. There are groups covering both the Andover and Basingstoke areas. Just click on the links to find out more.
