Title: Local History: POW Camp & Cullys

Can anyone shed any light on a POW camp holding Italians during WW2? I was told that it was at the top of 'Newbury Hill' near the railway station (at that point there would have been two, just to throw a spanner in the works).

Also interested to know what happened to 'Cullys', the clothing shop that vanished at some point. May be mis-spelled.

Further to this, it would appear to have been somewhere in the Water Tower area. It was fenced with a gate but not very secure I am told.

I have also been told of a dentist by the name of 'Butcher Cotton' who used to have a place near to the Post Office (Sorting Office). I would be fascinated to know any more.

I did ask the question, by email, of the leader of the locla history society, but he is known not to be very helpful

I also thought it housed Italian prisoners, however many sites list it as a German Working Company site. In any event, its number was 693a.
