BT FINALLY SET TO REPAIR FAULTY PLANT
« on: September 04, 2007, 08:54:58 pm »

For a number of years the BT Cross Connection Point (4) located outside of the old cinema has been faulty. This old beast suffers from an ingress of damp and causes problems to the 800 or so customers connected to it. These are mostly in the London Street/Road area as well as the outlying areas to the east of the Town (Wells-In-The-Field, Freefolk and Laverstoke).

The upgrade is scheduled to be done before Christmas and will result in the changing of the terminal types inside. This will remove hundreds of minor intermittent faults and losses and will result in better line quality & lower noise levels on many of the lines.

With new laws on road & street works hampering some of BT's planned upgrade work the initial suggestion has been to move the large green box to the opposite side of the street to allow easier future access. The move, which is yet to be confirmed, would also mean an end to the pavement being blocked as engineers work at the busy connection point.
