Witnesses sought following burglary in Whitchurch
« on: September 05, 2007, 04:13:22 pm »

Officers in Whitchurch are appealing for information following a burglary on Friday, August 31.

At around 6pm an elderly couple, aged 85, were home at an address on Micheldever Road, Whitchurch when they found a man climbing through their bathroom window.

The couple shouted at the offender and he ran off with a second man.

Officers have descriptions of the men they would like to speak to.

The first man is described as:

• White
• Aged 18 to 20
• Stocky build
• Short ginger hair

The second man is described as:

• White
• Aged 20 to 30
• Slim build
• Mousey coloured hair

PC Matthew Deery said: “Fortunately the couple disturbed the offenders before they had the chance to take anything from the property.

“I would ask members of the public to always be vigilant and to make sure all windows, particularly ground floor windows, are closed and locked when rooms are unattended.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have seen these men in the area at the time of the incident to come forward.”

On Sunday, 2nd September 2007 at around 10.30pm a simular incident happened at the Harvest Home, Winchester Road.  Two men matching the same description climbed onto the flat roof and attempted to enter through the living room window.  The men were disturbed by neighbours and never managed to fully enter the room.  They ran off to the right of the pub past the corner shop and were lost on the road down near the weir.  They had both been seen earlier that evening in the pub back garden climbing the main fence.  The incident was reported to the police and several patrols were seen later in the evening.
